"$100 Reward," Telegraph and Texas Register, August 28, 1839

Summary: An ad offering a reward for a runaway slave girl. Gave her age, complexion, and other features like a long lower lip; also described the dresses she escaped with. Offered 100 dollars for the girl and the thief who stole her, or 25 dollars for just the girl.


STOLEN or ranaway from my plantation, on the Colorado river, ten miles above Columbus, on the 10th inst. a negro girl, Menta, about sixteen years of age, rather dark, down look when spoken to, small mouth, her under lip sticks out rather more than common; she carried away with her one red calico dress, one white muslin dress, and one blue domestic. I will give the above reward for said negro and thief, if stolen; or twenty-five dollars for her, delivered to me, at my plantation, or to
