"Untitled," Telegraph and Texas Register, June 9, 1838
Summary: A Texas deputy sheriff placed an ad saying he found a runaway from Louisiana. Gave the slave's name, age, complexion, and height. Told the owner to claim him or the runaway would be "dealt with accordingly."
WAS taken up and committed to the Calaboose of the county of Bexar, on the 18th inst., a Negro Man, who says his name is Washington, or is generally called Wash, and says he belongs to Col. S. Bushen of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Said Negro is about 20 years of age, of a light brown complexion, has lost two upper front teeth, about 5 feet 3 inches high. The owner is requested to come forward and comply with the law, or said negro will be dealt with accordingly. JAMES F. JOHNSON, D'ty Sh'ff.
