"Stolen Negroes Found," Telegraph and Texas Register, February 3, 1838
Summary: Sheriff Townshend announced that he recovered two "stolen" (possibly meaning runaway) slaves in Columbus, Texas and called on the owners in Louisiana to come get them.
NOTICE is hereby given to the owner of two Negroes named Joe and Henry, who were stolen from Louisiana in July last, that they have been captured at Columbus, Colorado county, Texas, and are now in charge of the undersigned. These Negroes say they belong to a Mr. Burr, who resides about sixty miles above New Orleans. STEPHEN TOWNSHEND,
