John Brown to James F. Perry, October 3, 1833
Summary: John Brown agreed to sell his nine year old mulatto slave Clenan to Perry for $300. He did so in front of witnesses and gave full power over Clenan to Perry and his heirs.
Know all men by these presents that I John Brown for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do bargain sell and deliver unto James F. Perry his heirs executors administrators or assigns forever a certain mulatto boy slave for life named Clenan aged about nine years, to have and to hold the said mulatto boy slave Clenan to him the said James F. Perry his heirs executors administrators or assigns forever. And I the said John Brown for myself my heirs executors and administrators shall and will by these presents warrant and defend the title to said Mulatto boy Clenan against all persons whatsoever.
In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal this third day of October 1833
