Samuel Perry, February 23, 1830
Summary: Samuel Perry stated that he was signing over his share of three male slaves to James Perry. Gave the name, age, and value of each slave and acknowledged the payment of $675 to James Perry for all three. Also promised that if one George Craig won his lawsuit and took away two of the slaves, Samuel would pay James the value of those slaves.
Know all me by these presents that I Samuel Perry for and in consideration of Sixhundred and seventy five Dollars (being one half of the present valueation) to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath sold transfered and delivered, unto James F Perry all my right titel[sic]. Interest and claim to the following named slaves (which heretofore was held as the Joint property of James F & Samuel Perry, viz Dick a man slave aged about twenty years (and valued [at ] hundred Dollars) Sam a man slave about Seventeen years old (valued at four hundred and fifty Dollars) Ned a man slave about nineteen or twenty Years of age (valued at four hundred Dollars) to have and to hold the said Negro men Slaves for life from me my heirs and assigns forever, and whereas a certain George Craig claims and there is now a suit pending in the circuit Court of Washington County for two of the above named slaves viz Dick and Sam. I further agree in case the said Craig recovers said Slaves Dick & Sam to pay to the said James F Perry the two thirds of the value of said slaves.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of February one thousand eight hundred and thirty.
