"Twenty Dollars Reward," Telegraph and Texas Register, March 3, 1838

Summary: An ad, repeated from two weeks earlier, offering a twenty dollar reward for a runaway male slave. Gave the slave's description, stressing the fact that he was light skinned, enjoyed liquor, and was a carpenter. Also offered to pay for the expenses of capturing him.

RANAWAY from the subscriber on the 20th of January, a Negro man named BEN. He is six feet high and proportionally stout, complexion rather of a light cast for a negro, forward in his manners, and when in liquor, (which he is very fond of) impudent; is a rough Carpenter. Ben was brought to Houston in the early part of December by Dr. Berry, and remained there some ten or twelve days, where it is most probable he now is. The above reward will be given for his apprehension, and all necessary expenses paid for his delivery at Marion.
