"$20 Reward," Telegraph and Texas Register, February 10, 1838

Summary: Offered a reward for the capture of a runaway female slave. Described her age, complexion, former owner, and noted that she speaks two languages. Also warns readers not to help or use his slave or they would suffer punishment.


FOR apprehending and delivering to the subscriber or to Major I.N. Moreland, in Houston, a negro girl called JULIA, about twenty years of age, Griffe[sic] complexion, some small scars on her neck and shoulders, speaks French and English; was purchased of Mrs Clark, who recently left here for New Osleans[sic]. All persons are cautioned against harboring or employing said slave, as I am determined to put the law in force against the offender. WM. P. HARPIS.
